Quick Answer
Career counselling in Bhubaneswar is a structured process that uses a psychometric assessment, measuring aptitude, interest, personality and learning style, together with a live 1-on-1 session, to help a student or a working professional choose a stream, a course, a college or a career move. At MINDSCAN it is delivered online, so the assessment is taken at home and the session runs on video from Saheed Nagar, Patia, Nayapalli, Khandagiri or anywhere else in the city. The full assessment and counselling package costs ₹2,999, sessions run on Google Meet or Zoom in Hindi or English for 45 to 60 minutes, and every session ends with a written plan. A standalone AI Career Clarity Report is ₹1,499.
The Local Picture
Why Does Career Counselling in Bhubaneswar Need Local Knowledge?
Bhubaneswar is one of India’s best-educated state capitals. Census 2011 counted 8,85,363 people in the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation area with a literacy rate of 91.73%, well above the national average. The city holds an IIT, an AIIMS, NISER and a growing IT district, and it is now attracting semiconductor factories. Families here are ambitious for their children, and they have good reason to be.
The useful question for career counselling in Bhubaneswar is how a student gets from a strong marksheet to one of those opportunities. The answer depends on Odisha’s own boards, Odisha’s own entrance exam, and the industries the state is choosing to build over the next five years. A plan written for a student in Delhi or Bangalore will miss most of that.
Start with the size of each year’s group. In 2026 the Board of Secondary Education, Odisha declared Class 10 results on 2 May for about 5.36 lakh students, with a pass rate of 95.33%. Almost every one of those students then faces the same decision: which stream to choose for Class 11.
What they choose is the single most important pattern for any family in the city to understand, and it is set out in the next section.
Boards and Streams
Which School Boards Shape Career Choices in Bhubaneswar?
CHSE Odisha, and the Arts Majority
The Council of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha declared Plus Two results on 20 May 2026. The overall pass rate was 85.85%. The stream-wise pass rates were 88.80% in Science, 88.07% in Commerce and 84.50% in Arts.
The more revealing figure is how many students sat each stream:
| CHSE stream, 2026 | Students appeared | Share | Pass rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arts | 2,47,391 | 62.9% | 84.50% |
| Science | 1,14,980 | 29.2% | 88.80% |
| Commerce | 25,526 | 6.5% | 88.07% |
| Vocational | 5,721 | 1.5% | 77.62% |
Nearly two in every three Plus Two students in Odisha are in Arts, and only about one in fifteen is in Commerce. That is a real opportunity. Humanities leads to law, psychology, public policy, journalism, design, economics and the civil services, all of which reward students who choose them on purpose. Commerce, with so few students taking it, leaves more room in CA, CMA, finance and analytics courses than most parents expect.
The planning point is simple. A student who chooses Arts or Commerce because their aptitude profile fits it starts Class 11 with a clear destination. A student who ends up there by default often spends the first college year working out what to do next. Career counselling in Bhubaneswar is most valuable at exactly this fork.
CBSE and ICSE Schools
Bhubaneswar also has a large group of CBSE schools and a smaller ICSE group. Their students tend to aim for JEE, NEET, CUET and out-of-state universities from Class 9. The CBSE subject combinations for Class 11 are worth checking early, because a missing subject can close an entrance route two years later.
What the Board Does Not Decide
Whichever board a student is on, the board result is the entry ticket and the entrance exam or merit list decides the college. Planning for that second step in Class 11, rather than after the board exam, is what separates a calm admission season from a rushed one.
After Class 12
Which Entrance Exams Matter Most for Bhubaneswar Students?
OJEE, and the Separate JEE Main Round
The Odisha Joint Entrance Examination is the state route into B.Tech, B.Pharm, B.Arch, MBA and other programmes in Odisha colleges. For 2026, round 1 registration and choice filling opened on 18 June, with the first seat allotment on 2 July. Odisha runs a separate counselling round for candidates using JEE Main scores, so a student holding both results should register for the right round rather than assume one covers the other.
Ordering the preference list is where most marks are lost. A student who lists colleges by reputation alone can miss a better branch at a slightly less famous college. Deciding the branch-versus-college trade-off before the window opens is part of every Class 12 session.
JEE Main and Advanced
JEE Main leads to NITs, IIITs and, through JEE Advanced, the IITs, including IIT Bhubaneswar. In the NIRF 2025 rankings IIT Bhubaneswar rose 15 places to 39th in engineering and reached 80th overall. For families weighing engineering against medicine, the engineering vs medical comparison sets out the questions that matter.
NEET
NEET is the single route into MBBS, BDS and allied health programmes, including at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan in Bhubaneswar ranked 9th among dental institutions in NIRF 2025. A NEET plan should always include a second route chosen in advance, so that a close result leads to a good option rather than a hurried one.
NEST, for Students Who Love Science Itself
Bhubaneswar has a pure-science option that many families overlook. NEST admits students to the five-year integrated MSc at NISER Bhubaneswar, which offers about 200 seats. The 2026 exam was held on 6 June, and admitted students receive a DISHA scholarship of ₹60,000 a year. For a student whose assessment shows strong reasoning and a genuine interest in research, it deserves a place on the list next to JEE.
CUET and SAMS for Degree Admissions
CUET is the route into central universities across India. Inside Odisha, most +3 degree admissions run through SAMS Odisha, the state’s merit-based system built on Plus Two marks. That makes the CHSE percentage itself important for Arts, Science and Commerce degree seats at well-known colleges, which is worth knowing before the board exam, not after it. The guide on choosing a career after 12th works through the order in which these decisions should be made.
The Job Market
What Careers Is Bhubaneswar Building?
Semiconductors at Info Valley
On 12 August 2025 the Union Cabinet approved two semiconductor units at Info Valley, Bhubaneswar, according to the Press Information Bureau. SiCSem is building what the government describes as the country’s first commercial compound semiconductor fab, making silicon carbide chips for electric vehicles, railways and solar inverters. 3D Glass Solutions is building an advanced chip packaging unit.
The 3D Glass Solutions plant had its groundbreaking on 19 April 2026, with an investment of ₹1,943.53 crore, commercial production from August 2028 and full volume by August 2030, according to PIB. The state has said the project will need engineering graduates, diploma holders and ITI students. For a student starting a degree in 2026 or 2027, those dates line up neatly with graduation.
IT, and Global Capability Centres
Odisha approved its IT Policy 2025 on 25 August 2025 with a target of 10 lakh direct and indirect jobs in IT and IT-enabled services, and the Electronics and IT Department runs the parks where most of this work sits, including Infocity near Patia. In November 2025 the state added a Global Capability Centre policy aimed at 50,000 jobs, with the Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri and Paradip corridor as a priority area. Software, data, cybersecurity, finance operations and analytics roles are the ones these centres usually hire for.
Healthcare, Research and Education
AIIMS Bhubaneswar, NISER, the Institute of Life Sciences and several private universities make the city a strong base for careers in medicine, allied health, life sciences and research. Many of these roles reward a postgraduate degree, so the planning conversation often starts in the second year of college.
Working From Bhubaneswar for Employers Elsewhere
Remote and hybrid roles let many professionals keep Bhubaneswar’s quality of life while earning from employers in Bangalore, Hyderabad or abroad. It works best for people who build a visible portfolio and a strong LinkedIn profile early. The guide to AI-proof careers covers which of these roles are growing.
Public Sector
Is a Government Job Still a Good Plan in Odisha?
For the right person, yes. A state or central government job offers security and respect, and many Bhubaneswar families have built good lives on one. The Odisha Public Service Commission and the state staff selection bodies recruit every year.
One recent change matters for planning. On 29 May 2025 the Odisha Cabinet raised the upper age limit for most state government recruitment exams from 32 to 42 years, with further relaxation for reserved categories and women, as reported by Biz Odisha. That gives aspirants a much longer window.
A longer window works best with a clear structure. We recommend three things for anyone choosing this route: check that the aptitude profile suits competitive exams, set a fixed number of attempts, and build a second career track alongside the preparation from the start. That way the exam is a strong option and never the only one.
The Process
How Does Online Career Counselling in Bhubaneswar Work?
Four steps, all online, so there is no travel across the city and no waiting for an appointment slot at an office.
1. The assessment. A psychometric assessment covering aptitude, interest, personality and learning style, taken at home before the session.
2. The report. A written profile of what the student is strong at, where they need support, and which career families fit that combination. It is written so that a parent can read it as easily as the student.
3. The session. A live 1-on-1 video session of 45 to 60 minutes on Google Meet or Zoom, in Hindi or English, run by Arun Kumar Saxena or a counsellor from his MINDSCAN team. Parents are welcome to join for part of the session or all of it.
4. The written plan. Clear next steps: which stream or subjects to choose, which exams to take, how to order the OJEE or SAMS preferences, and what to do this month. Arun reviews every report.
Who It’s For
Who Uses Career Counselling in Bhubaneswar?
Class 9 and 10, Choosing a Stream
This is the moment when career counselling in Bhubaneswar changes the most. With 62.9% of Odisha’s Plus Two students in Arts, the stream decision shapes most of what follows. An aptitude profile turns it from a guess into a choice. The free career personality test is a good first step before booking anything.
Class 11 and 12, Planning Exams and Colleges
Here the work is choosing which exams to take, from OJEE, JEE, NEET, NEST and CUET, and building the preference lists before the counselling windows open. Science students who are unsure about the engineering or medical route will find useful options in careers after 12th Science without NEET or JEE.
College Students and Graduates
Graduates from Utkal University, the city’s private universities and colleges across Odisha use sessions to choose between a postgraduate degree, a job in the IT and GCC sector, or a government exam with a fixed plan.
Working Professionals and Women Returning to Work
Professionals use career counselling in Bhubaneswar to plan a move into the new semiconductor, IT and GCC roles, prepare for interviews, or negotiate a better offer. Women returning after a career break get a dedicated relaunch session.

Career Counselling in Bhubaneswar, Frequently Asked Questions
The complete package, a psychometric assessment plus a 1-on-1 online session plus a written action plan, costs ₹2,999. A standalone AI Career Clarity Report costs ₹1,499. The price is the same in Bhubaneswar as in every other city, and you know it before you pay anything.
Sessions run in Hindi or English. Most Bhubaneswar students and parents are comfortable in one of the two, and the written report is in clear, simple English that the whole family can read.
Only if her aptitude profile supports it. In 2026, 62.9% of CHSE Plus Two students were in Arts and just 6.5% in Commerce, and good careers start from all three streams. The assessment shows which stream fits her strengths, so the choice rests on evidence rather than on marks alone.
Yes. The Class 12 session covers which exams to take and how to order your OJEE preferences by branch and college. For 2026, Odisha ran a separate counselling round for JEE Main candidates, so we also check that you register for the right round.
For a student with strong reasoning and a real interest in research, it can be an excellent option. NISER admits about 200 students a year to its five-year integrated MSc through NEST, with a DISHA scholarship of ₹60,000 a year. The assessment helps show whether research suits the student.
Two semiconductor units at Info Valley approved in August 2025, the Odisha IT Policy 2025 targeting 10 lakh direct and indirect IT jobs, and a Global Capability Centre policy aimed at 50,000 jobs. Engineering, electronics, software, data and finance operations graduates are the main beneficiaries.
A session runs 45 to 60 minutes on Google Meet or Zoom. It is run by Arun Kumar Saxena or a counsellor from his MINDSCAN team, and Arun reviews every report. Parents are welcome to join for part of the session or all of it.
Class 8 onwards. At that age a child’s interests start to show, and there are still two years to test them before the Class 10 stream choice, which shapes the next ten years. In Odisha that choice matters even more, because 62.9% of CHSE Plus Two students sit in Arts, many of them by default. Class 11 and 12 is the next window, for picking between OJEE, JEE, NEET, NEST and CUET. After that, any age works. My MINDSCAN team and I guide graduates, working professionals and mothers returning after a break. It’s never too late. Earlier is simply cheaper.
For career guidance, yes. Most psychometric assessments are taken on a screen anyway, even at centres with an office. What decides the quality is the assessment and the person reading it, and neither depends on the room. Online also helps in small ways. No drive from Patia or Khandagiri, a parent can join from the office, and the written plan stays with you to reread when admission season gets stressful.
It can give information, and it is good at that. Ask it what NEST covers or what a B.Tech in electronics leads to and you’ll get a decent answer. What it can’t do is measure your child. It knows only what you type, so a confused student gets a confident answer to the wrong question. Every child is unique. Use AI to explore options, then decide on a measured aptitude profile. Our AI Career Clarity Report (₹1,499) uses AI exactly that way, and I review every report myself.
Yes, a few honest options. Talk to your school counsellor if your school has one, and take our free career personality test for a first read of interests. You can also WhatsApp a question to +91 91406 04743 at no cost. Be careful with free counselling at college fairs and coaching institutes. Frankly speaking, it usually ends in an admission pitch, because that is where they earn. MINDSCAN has no tie-up with any college.
The best one is the one who fits your child, so ask five questions before you pay anyone. Does the counsellor use a proper psychometric assessment, or only a chat? Is the fee published? Do they earn commission from colleges or study-abroad agents? Will you get a written plan at the end? How much experience is behind the advice? A “top 10” list on a directory ranks listings. It says nothing about fit. At MINDSCAN, sessions are run by me or a counsellor from my team, I review every report, fees are published on this page and we have no college tie-ups. Behind that sit my 22 years and more than 20,000 students and professionals guided.
Pay securely through the Razorpay link on this page, or message +91 91406 04743 on WhatsApp first if you have a question. You receive the assessment link, complete it at home, and then book your session time.
